Untidy Objects Univeristy Of Chicago, September 2023
This four-chapter project is an iteration of IIII 2022 with different subject and objects. From dividing human-built spaces to creating livable spaces for non-humans at Untidy Objects, IIII 2023 aims to transform the functionality of four wooden room dividers. Inspired from the Undity Objects’ practice of ‘moving from objects as static, past subjects as individuals,’ IIII 2023 investigates man-made objects as objects in waiting, and the objects’ transformation in each chapter liberates them from their stage of staticness. In this version of IIII 2023, local mushrooms are introduced as collaborators to help re-naturalizing non-native woods as the material of those room dividers to the local ecosystems in Untidy Objects. It also illustrates the co-mingling story of the aliens and locals, and how they gradually bend in as one living body-the subject.
